Luis Ángel Firpo (October 11, 1894 – August 7, 1960) was an Argentine boxer who is best known for his fight against Jack Dempsey in 1923. Firpo was known as "The Wild Bull of the Pampas" due to his aggressive fighting style and his origins in the rural areas of Argentina.
On September 14, 1923, Firpo fought Jack Dempsey in what was known as the "Battle of the Century". Firpo knocked Dempsey out of the ring in the first round, but Dempsey managed to get back in the ring before the count of ten. The fight continued until the second round when Dempsey knocked Firpo out for the win.
Firpo had a record of 31 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw in his professional career, with 26 of his wins coming by knockout. He retired from boxing in 1931 and died in Buenos Aires in 1960 at the age of 65. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995.
